New Mexico Watercolor Society Workshop:
Thursday-Saturday, April 8-10, 2021
Free Demo Thursday, April 8, 10 am
“In this class I will try to give the students an understanding of what makes a good landscape painting. We will look at the basics of all landscapes – foreground, middle distance, background, sky and focal point. I will include mini-demos on how to do trees, rocks and houses, with discussions on how to use value and color. We will work on putting all the elements together to make your painting properly organized, pleasing to you and most importantly, it will be show ready.”
Bud Edmondson has been an active part of the New Mexico art scene since moving back to NM in 1994. His entire working career has been art related. He worked as a commercial illustrator for thirty-five years. He owned his own studio and worked with clients such as World Book Encyclopedia, Motorola, and Sunbeam. Even while working as an illustrator, Bud was active in the fine arts, showing his paintings in several Chicago and Wisconsin galleries and teaching night classes at Northeastern University. He decided, years ago, to devote himself to full time painting and which prompted his move to Albuquerque.
He maintains a studio with The Artist Studio, a group of twelve artists who share studio space. He normally teaches 3 or 4 classes a year. Bud is especially adept at watercolor and pastel. “These two media allow me to combine draftsmanship with spontaneity,” he says. He is a firm believer in painting on location, “I can get the real feel of a place”. Most of his larger works, while conceived on location, are finished in the studio.
Bud has been honored with Signature Membership in the New Mexico Watercolor Society, the Pastel Society of New Mexico and the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico. Bud has been an award winner for years. He was one of the very first artists to be selected as a “Local Treasure” by the Albuquerque Art Business Assoc.
